Responsibilities

We seek a Lifeguard, who is responsible for ensuring the safety of all users of the School pool and Sports facilities by offering lifeguarding services and health and safety inspections.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Lifeguarding Related

Complete lifeguard duties as per the rota including 1 weekend in 4
Ensure the pool is always fully supervised
Maintain a safe environment at all times
Participate in monthly lifeguard training sessions
Monitor weather reports and lightning metre to ensure safety of swimmers
Monitor pool chemical levels and ensure they are within safe standards and records are kept
Conduct pool opening and closing procedures, ensure regular checks of all poolside and lifesaving equipment
Supervise swimmers and provide assistance
Spot hazards and prevent accidents and report any unsafe equipment or incidents
Give advice on water safety as required
Control unruly or unsafe behaviour in line with behaviour procedures of the School
Recognise and respond effectively in emergencies using Water rescue and First aid including CPR as required
Ensure high standards of cleanliness and tidiness are maintained around the pool and pool deck area
Ensure all administration logs and checks are completed and up to date
Liaise with Pool Manager regarding working duties and pool opening times
Assist with the setup of swimming events with Facilities/Aquatics Departments
Monitor pool chemical levels and ensure they are within safe standards and records are kept
Conduct pool opening and closing procedures
Assist with pool set up requests for lessons and activities
Perform regular checks of all poolside and lifesaving equipment

Health and Safety and Facilities Related

Support in the daily inspections of Pool/Sports Dept Equipment and facilities as required
Report any defects or health and safety issues identified through inspection promptly on CAFM
Participate in Health and Safety Tours with the Recreations Manager as requested
Conduct general grounds inspections for general appearance and report any hazards, including playgrounds, fitness room, sports hall and changing rooms
Assist in opening/unlocking and securing afterwards lakeside facilities as required

Other Responsibilities

Support the Holiday Programmes as required and as appropriate to existing role, (this may include, but is not limited to: general administrative support, front of house support, telephone and email communication or language translation support). Any support given should not detract from the main duties of this job description
Follow all agreed School Policy and procedures as shared and in the Staff Handbooks
Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Department, Head of Faculty or members of the Senior Leadership Team and any duties that the Head Master deems necessary for the effective operation of the School

Requirements

Hold a RLSS NPLQ
Experience of working as a lifeguard / pool supervisor or similar experience
Excellent interpersonal skills, a flexible, positive attitude and a great team worker
Good English communication skills
Willingness to work two weekends in one month
Acceptable police checks (or equivalent) from the country of origin and from all other countries in which the applicant has worked
